Draw on Objects
Found Object DrawingI discovered that I enjoy a lot of different mediums in contrast to the fact that I always considered myself someone who just enjoyed drawing on paper with a pencil or painting on canvas with acrylic paint. The challenges allowed me to explore concepts that felt very limiting in a way that broadened my horizons as an artist. While it felt weird to interpret simple words like "water" or "conversations" in ways that went beyond just replicating the word as a drawing, it really helped me explore different themes and mediums. I really enjoyed the gesso and paper challenges because I have never used gesso, but it has become something I really hope to use in pieces in the future. I love the way it creates texture and shadow and makes an image feel real. The floor-to-ceiling challenge was, by far, the most daunting and I honestly struggled with creating something that utilized the concept. Despite this initial fear, I feel that this challenge is what produced one of the pieces I am most proud of. I would really like to keep exploring gesso as a medium as well as drawing on objects. Drawing on objects is something I have always enjoyed randomly doing, but validating it through the quick challenges allowed me to consider exploring it in new ways going forward.
